Midcentury Modern: Today the exhibit "The House that Sam Built: Sam Maloof and Art in the Pomona Valley, 1945-1985" opens today at the MaryLou and George Boone Gallery at the Huntington Library. This exhibit is a part of the regional collaboration Pacific Standard Time: Art in L.A. 1945-1980. This exhibit will feature the furniture of midcentury craftsman Sam Maloof (1916-2009) and his friends. Maloof was self-taught as a woodworker, who was born and raised in Chino as the son of Lebanese immigrants. He worked as a studio assistant to Millard Sheets, the iconic California scene painter and leader of the Claremont art community. Tickets at the Huntington are $20.
